CV Joint Kits: When Replacement Is Better Than Driveshaft

A CV joint kit replaces just the constant-velocity joint at one end of a driveshaft, rather than the complete shaft. The kit includes the joint, the boot, the grease, the bands and (usually) a new circlip to retain the joint on the shaft. For cars where the driveshaft is still good but the joint has worn, a joint kit is a sensible repair.

When kit beats complete shaft

Single-end wear (one outer joint clicking, inner joint and shaft fine). Premium or specialist car where complete shaft availability is limited or expensive. Track-day or rebuild project where labour cost matters less than the right-spec joint.

When complete shaft beats kit

Both joints worn (the shaft was already past replacing as a whole). High-mileage daily driver where reliability beats cost. Damaged shaft (the steel tube is bent or scored).

Brand

OE-equivalent joint kits from Lobro (GKN — original OE on much European production), SPIDAN, NTY, Cifam, Febi.
